I undertook General Professional training in Psychiatry at St Thomas' and Guy's Hospital. I gained membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1991 (M.R.C.Psych.). I am approved under section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
I completed higher professional training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London (1994-1998) and have been a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Southampton since 1998. I have developed an interest in multi-agency work with the most challenging young people, including those experiencing severe mental illness, learning difficulties and the emotional consequences of experiences of abuse and neglect. I was based full time at The Priory Hospital Marchwood, Southampton, 2007-2013. Between 2005 and 2007 I was Lead Clinician for the Southampton NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
I have experience of medico-legal work both in the Family Law Courts as well as for the criminal justice system. I am regularly involved with Court reports concerning “Fitness to plead”, or considering diversion from custody using the Mental Health Act. I have provided psychiatric reports for both Crown Court cases as well as Youth Court matters.
